The Asteraceae (Daisy Family)

The BRIT Editorial Center for the Flora of North America North of Mexico (FNANM) program guided preparation of the Asteraceae treatment.  This is the largest family of flowering plants – including 414 genera and 2500 species in the FNA region – and was published in three volumes in 2006.  The FNA staff at BRIT included Ted Barkley (Lead Editor), Helen Jeude (Technical Editor), Justin Allison (Administrative Assistant), and Guy Nesom (BRIT botanist).  Six BRIT botanists contributed to the scientific treatments (see 2006 Research Publications).

The FNANM program is a long-term project to account for all of the vascular plants and bryophytes growing outside of cultivation in North America north of Mexico.  The overall FNA program is coordinated through the FNA Association, centered at the Missouri Botanical Garden in Saint Louis.  The project at BRIT was supported by a National Science Foundation grant to BRIT and by funds from a grant to the overall FNA project from the Chanticleer Foundation of Wayne, Pennsylvania.
