Research to benefit both plants and humans

Plant-centered research reveals relationships between plants, documents geographic diversity, and identifies species. From the field to the herbarium to the library, BRIT scientists expand the knowledge of the natural world. The geographic scope is as varied as Peru, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, North America, East Texas and the Four Corners region of the United States.

The goal is to balance the world’s growing resource needs without compromising the integrity of the natural landscape and its ability to provide for future generations. BRIT’s research is primarily conservation-oriented but benefits human wellbeing by providing the knowledge for the maintenance of human health.

BRIT’s 21st century facility will increase the capacity to achieve more research and enhance opportunities for research funding.
