BRIT’s vision is clear. Its success resides in a facility that will allow this vibrant organization to flourish as one of the major botanical institutes in the world.

John Janovec, pictured here in the Andes Mountains of Peru, is a tropical botanist and the director of a multidisciplinary science, education, and conservation program at BRIT, known as the Andes to Amazon Biodiversity Program. This program is documenting the biodiversity of the Andes and Amazon regions of Peru and creating new technological tools for the management, collaboration and sharing of this data.

“Plants, animals, insects, reptiles, amphibians and the habitats they occupy — as human beings we are part of the intricate and glorious web of life on earth. The natural world may survive, even flourish, without us, but our human spirit is diminished and our future as a species is in jeopardy unless we respect and conserve this heritage. What will our legacy be?”
