Why Invest?

As this generation sees a dramatic decrease in plant species and the animals that depend on them, the time available to document, understand, and conserve our delicate planet diminishes.

Thanks to the visionaries of the past, the diversity and distribution of plants is documented in centuries-old specimens that instruct contemporary researchers as to what has already been lost.

The Botanical Research Institute of Texas is pressed for time to construct an environmentally focused, 21st century facility to house its collections of old and newly described preserved plants. To conserve these specimens, that may hold substances and genes of inestimable benefit to human health and well being, they must be held in conditions that pay attention to their preservation.

To that end, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas is engaged in a campaign to build a home for the collections, researchers and educators that serves as a cultural and scientific center for conservation.
