
This fabulous collection contains approximately 95,000 volumes of scientific and taxonomic books, periodicals, and journals from more than 90 countries representing the majority of the world’s written languages. The nucleus of the library were formed from books felt to be the most important for research and systematic botany, in particular those with descriptions of new species. The remainder of the collection has been carefully selected to represent a comprehensive library of scientific and taxonomic books and publications primarily for naming and classifying plants. BRIT's collections of books have grown from the original 6,000 volumes to more than 20,000 in the decade since its establishment.

Through generous support from Oliver G. Burk, BRIT has a wonderful collection of children’s books on botany and natural history that are available for use by teachers, students, and the public. Help us ensure that this resource is effective by updating our library database when new books are purchased, typing labels, and attaching them to new books and shelving books in the library. This job requires 8 to 10 hours monthly.
