A fee of $100.00 per day is charged (minimum 1/2 day) for use of the herbarium by qualified individuals when no BRIT staff member is needed beyond the initial orientation to the facility as well as instructions on use and proper handling of the collections. Rates for long-term projects requiring the use of the herbarium for more than five days can be negotiated and contracted on a case-by-case basis.
A fee of $50.00 per hour is charged for assistance (beyond the initial orientation) by a BRIT staff member (one hour minimum).

The following charges will apply to individuals, companies, organizations, and institutions wishing to use the Botanical Research Institute of Texas staff for plant identifications, library services, or consulting and research services:
BRIT offers its services to identify plant specimens on a contract basis. The client may choose to pay any of the three following rates: 1) $15/specimen, or 2) $50/hour, or 3) $300/day. The client agrees to confer with BRIT concerning specimens that cannot be identified within 30 minutes. If the client agrees for BRIT to continue work on a specimen above 30 minutes to obtain a more precise identification, the work will be charged at $50/hour. If the client wishes to have the specimen sent to a specialist for identification, a flat fee of $100/specimen will be charged.
BRIT offers consulting and research services on a contract basis. The client may choose to pay either of the following rates. 1) $50.00 per hour (one hour minimum), or 2) $300.00 per day. Rates for long-term projects requiring the use of the BRIT staff for more than five days can be negotiated and contracted on a case-by-case basis.
Botanical illustrations, herbarium specimens, and other illustrative materials that are reproduced for publication and/or commercial use are subject to additional specific rates and requirements:
Staff research time for specific illustrations requested by a client will vary and will be billed at $50.00 per hour (minimum charge of $25.00). In most cases, BRIT can provide copies of illustrations for client approval. When client decides which art is best for his/her particular use, BRIT can provide clean photocopies ($5/copy), digital reproductions in tiff or jpeg format for $10 each plus $5 to have the image burned onto a compact disc, 35mm color slides at a charge of $25 and, in most cases, a 4x6 color print or transparency of the requested art for a minimum charge of $125.00 per image ($100.00 per image if requesting more than five). This payment is required in advance. All of our photography is in color, but client should be able to convert readily if reproduction is for black and white only. Please allow four weeks for delivery of slides, color prints, or transparencies.
Note: Graphic materials are restricted to one-time use only. There is a one-time publications fee of $25 per image. Specific acknowledgment of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas must be made in the publication as follows: COURTESY OF THE BOTANICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF TEXAS, FORT WORTH. It will be the client's responsibility to secure any copyright permission that might be applicable to his/her use of the copyrighted material.
If client wishes to provide his/her own professional photographer, a BRIT staff member must be present at all times to assist handling of fragile, rare, and old items. As a courtesy to BRIT, outside photographers will provide a transparency of each photo to BRIT at no charge.
