Mark your calendars for fun Saturdays at BRIT!

BRIT is open to the public every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the following activities taking place:
Public tours – starting at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Exhibit hall – open for visitors to view our latest exhibition.
Plant Preservation Studio – open for visitors to meet a BRIT botanist and learn about our plant collection.
Flora, the gift store at BRIT is open.
Self-guided tours of our LEED Platinum building are available.
• Visitors may also explore our pocket prairie, geology wall, braided gardens, and our wetland area.

On select Saturdays BRIT has extra programming taking place.

Year of the Bat - January 14: Start the year off by celebrating the Year of the Bat! Join us as Bat World Sanctuary presents a family program that will feature real live bats. Adults and children will learn about the importance of bats, what to do if you find a bat, and how to help bat conservation efforts. Children will get to take the bat scout pledge and will receive an official bat scout ring.

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Cost: $3.00 per child; $5.00 per adult; FREE for BRIT members and their children

Bees 'N the Hood - March 24: Urban Bee Wranglers from the Texas Honeybee Guild will give a fun family program about the importance of bees to plants, our environment, and our lives. This interactive presentation will also include a chance to view a working hive and time to talk to the Urban Bee Wranglers one-on-one.
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Cost: $3.00 per child; $5.00 per adult; FREE for BRIT members and their children

Popcorn & A Movie Family Style-A Simple Question: The Story of STRAW - March 24: Are you ready to be inspired? If so, then you and your family don’t want to miss this film.  Come and join us in watching a documentary about real students and teachers who have truly had a positive impact on their environment. Educator and Family Program: Why Are There Plants On That Roof - April 21: For months Fort Worth residents watched BRIT being built on the former site of the public health department.  Soon they began to notice a different kind of building and a very different kind of roof! Kids of all ages can participate in hands on activities designed to help YOU be the scientist! Investigate different kinds of soil that researchers had to examine in designing the living roof and see specimens representing the flora of our living roof. RSVP to April Sawey at asawey@brit.org.

Prairie Day - May 19: Celebrate wildflowers and our North Texas prairie heritage with BRIT on Prairie Day. Families will learn about hardy Texas native plants that grow on the prairie and how to harvest the seeds of those plants to enjoy next season. Children will learn how to make seed balls with the perennials from BRIT’s gardens, and everyone will learn about the cultural and natural history that defines our region through activities and games for the whole family.
