About

Welcome Educators!

Thanks to a generous endowment gift from the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, The BRIT SEED (Science-based Experiential Education Design) School for educators, located in the Suzanne Rall Peacock Education Center, inspires and supports educators in connecting children to nature through the use of outdoor classrooms, nature, and urban environments.

Embracing a “sense of place” philosophy, The BRIT SEED School utilizes hands-on, real-world learning experiences that encourage individuals to “develop stronger ties to their community, enhance appreciation for the natural world, and create a heightened commitment to serving as active, contributing citizens” (David Sobel, Place-Based Education)

 Professional Development

Intelligent, finely crafted, and soulful are some of the ways educators have described BRIT’s professional development.  We honor and support educators by providing continuing education opportunities that emphasize science content, outdoor inquiry, place-based education, and culturally responsive teaching.

Program leaders utilize research-based best practices to guide you through experiential activities-- learning content that aligns with state standards (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and practical techniques that empower children to engage in learning. Even though BRIT’s professional development emphasizes science education, we embrace an interdisciplinary approach to learning about the natural world: providing learning opportunities in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and art.

BRIT is a registered professional development provider for the State Board of Educator Certification. Educators participating in our programs receive Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit for the state of Texas.

Your registration fees go a long way at BRIT.  They include high quality educator resources, meals, CPE credits, and time for planning and reflection.

We encourage you to bring your learning journal or field notebook with you.  Be sure to wear comfortable clothes appropriate for outdoor activities. You might also consider joining in our sustainability pledge by bringing a reusable water bottle.
