Science Explorers Kits

Science Explorers Kits include materials for activities that focus on the introduction and mastery of basic science concepts and process skills through exciting topics such as ladybugs, river systems, terrariums, prairies, bees and grasses.  Kits include curriculum and appropriate literature for the age and topic.  Lessons in the curriculum include hands-on activities and model the learning cycle, encouraging student exploration and application of new knowledge.  Kits must be reserved in advance and are loaned for two weeks.

Includes laminated animal cards for sorting, containers of products we eat that contain grass, cotton bolls, cotton products, cotton video, Bread Comes to Life video and book.

Grade 2
Includes pictures of ladybugs and aphids, example of ladybug model, The Grouchy Ladybug book, list of places to purchase live ladybugs, correlating GEMS guide.

Grade 3
Includes bee specimens, bee wax products, honeycombs, pollen balls, “bee pheromones” game, process vs. cycle sequencing cards, Michael Bird Boy book, video and correlating teacher guide, GEMS guide.

Grade 3
Includes non-consumable materials needed to make student terrariums and plant material for students to be detectives in an investigation, includes the book The Salamander Room and the GEMS manual Terrariums.

Grade 4
Includes plastic shoeboxes and artifacts for the teacher to make middens for students to investigate as archaeologists, soil samples and tools to test properties of soils

Includes various sea shells and sand samples for investigations, Texas rock kits to identify sand origins, guides for mollusks and other marine animals, GEMS manual On Sandy Shores

Exploring Change in a River Ecosystem

Grade 5
Includes tubs of diatomaceous earth and dripper systems to simulate the formation of a river, correlating GEMS guide.
