BRIT invites you to get up close and personal with the natural world in our professional development and resource offerings for teachers. Whatever program you choose, prepare to get inspired by nature and become excited to share it with others.
Further your understanding about nature through place-based learning experiences and practice doing science in BRIT's professional development workshops. Join a community of learners working to engage students in outdoor learning during conferences BRIT organizes with REAL School Gardens.
Whether exploring "Quigley's castle" for plants or getting "pressed" with "Bella", students can enjoy rich, interactive learning in our Distance Learning programs. BRIT's Distance Learning Programs are offered through www.connect2texas.net.
Need some help pulling together the right materials to support quality science and place-based investigations with your students? BRIT has a diverse selection of curriculum resources for purchase and loan in our Educator Resource Center and Burk Children's Library. Also recently added are resources from our Early Childhood 'Beeology' and Botany workshop.
Teachers who attend BRIT Professional Development and use the ideas or curriculum in their classroom are invited to share their experiences with us through the Science Teacher Award. First introduced in 2001, by former trustee Wendy Owsley Garrett, this award honors exemplary teachers for their dedication and hard work and, at the same time, solicits constructive analysis on the effectiveness of BRIT's education programs.
All of BRIT's programs are aligned with state and national science standards. BRIT is a registered professional development provider for the State Board of Educator Certification, and teachers participating in our programs receive continuing education credit for the state of Texas.
* BRIT's field trips for students have been temporarily discontinued. In the meantime, we invite you and your students to explore the world of Distance Learning with us!
