Congratulations to the 2011 Winners

Shanna Cisneros

Shannon, a 3rd grade teacher from Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center, is our first-place winner. She is an exemplary teacher with 23 years of science teaching experience and a true love for science. Her passion for science is contagious.  All of her students entered “The Great Tree Story” Essay Contest, all participated in the Alice Carlson Science Fair, and five participated in the Alice Carlson Invention Convention.

When asked about BRIT's impact on her teaching, Shanna said, "After attending a BRIT workshop, I come back reenergized about science.  After attending the 'Good to Great Journals' PD, I incorporated strategies from the workshop. My students ran out of pages in their science journals for the first time this year. They enjoyed working in their journals."

Donna Hollowell

Donna, a Biology/Environmental Science teacher from Burleson High School, is our second-place winner. She is an exemplary teacher with 28 years of science teaching experience. She works to share her passion and enthusiasm for local and global responsibilities to the planet with all her students. Donna’s personal mission statement is one she learned in girl scouts and shares with her students every year, “I want to leave every person, place, and thing better than I found it.”

Donna believes she is a better teacher because of her association with BRIT, "When I discovered an began attending BRIT workshops, there was a resurgence in the excitement and determination to make every effort to see my students become good citizens of this planet."

Shanna will receive a $1,000 honorarium and Donna will receive a $500 honorarium at the BRIT Board of Directors Meeting in the fall.
