“In the science education program at BRIT, we seek to provide opportunities for children and adults to discover nature in such a way that, from that point on, their perception of their connection with the environment will be forever changed.”
- Patricia Harrison,
Head of Education

BRIT links global issues to local experience through programs devoted to educating the public about the importance of biodiversity and sustaining the environment. BRIT Education recognizes the importance of fostering in children and adults a sense of wonder about the natural world. In this age of technology, the power of an inquiry approach to learning cultivates transformative experiences – it fosters a change in perspective, altering learners core assumptions about the nature of things.
Place-based education provides children and adults an understanding of local ecology and sense of connection to the land and the communities upon which an ethic of care and responsibility can develop.
We are committed to offering opportunities for adult learners to engage with lay and expert researchers at BRIT to tap the vast stores of knowledge preserved here.

Children are losing their connection to the traditional play environment, which was always outdoors and in nature. The play environment has been compromised by entertainment technology, pollution, and urban congestion. Place-based education offers a means for changing this.
We are committed to empowering teachers with the skills, processes and content to take their students outdoors for meaningful exploratory learning experiences.
