BRIT announced in May 2008 that it is going for the Gold: it is raising $47 million to build and endow a new facility in Fort Worth for which it will seek the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ Gold certification, making it one of the city’s first to do so. BRIT’s new home will also be one of the first buildings in the region to have a “green” roof planted with plants suitable for the climate.
BRIT’s 69,000-square-foot home in Fort Worth’s Cultural District will be built on a 5.2-acre site leased from the City of Fort Worth at 1800 University Drive (at the southwest corner of Harley Avenue and University Drive) adjacent to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. It will replace the building that houses the Fort Worth Public Health Department, which will move to another location.
