B.S. Environmental Science and Cultural Anthropology, Southern Methodist University
Graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tiana joined the BRIT staff on August 1st, 2003. As the new Collections Assistant, she will be working directly under the Collections Manager, Amanda Neill. Curatorial duties include filing, mounting, assisting with volunteers and managing the various exchange and gift material that BRIT receives and sends out. Also included in her duties are the maintenance of exchange databases, as well as other records, and assisting with volunteers, educational programs, research and publications.
Tiana arrives at BRIT with an undergraduate degree received at SMU in May of 2003, a double major in Environmental Science (with a biology emphasis) and Cultural Anthropology. She hopes to bring to the BRIT programs a well-rounded approach, garnered as a result of both her degree and her travel abroad. Tiana has only recently been awarded her US resident’s visa, and previous to arriving in the US to attend college, was raised in the Philippine’s largest city, Manila. Growing up in Southeast Asia while carrying both a British and El Salvadorian passport, she was free to do a significant amount of travel, both in Asia and South and Central America.
While her botanical fieldwork experience is primarily limited to Ecuador, Tiana plans to expand this, and to use her time at BRIT to contribute to its programs as well as to further her own academic ambitions. Her interests lie primarily in ecological and conservation issues in the neotropics, and by working at BRIT she hopes to explore the topics that she will pursue in graduate school at Texas Christian University in the coming academic year.
