In her youth, Amanda spent afternoons building forts and exploring creeks in her backyard in Kentucky. This early experience instilled in her a life-long love and curiousity of nature. As an adult, Amanda continues to pursue her connection to the natural world through gardening, hiking, and canoeing.
Amanda also has a love for teaching and has spent much of her professional career working with college students. Before coming to BRIT, Amanda taught multicultural education and gender equity for the Teacher Education Program at Texas Woman's University. Her academic and professional interests include inclusive pedagogies, service learning, assessment and evaluation, and community-based research.
She joined BRIT in March 2010 to combine her two passions of nature and teaching.
Amanda received a B.A. in Communication Studies from Furman University, an M.A. in Education Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education with an emphasis in Multicultural Education from the University of Denver.
In 2007, Amanda moved to Texas with her husband, Matt, and shortly afterwards their family expanded to include their daughter, Madeleine Stone.
